The DC List (1 of 3): Meet Your Republican Congressional Members...........and, guess when they will turn 103

Greetings to our blog readers from Argentina, France and Malaysia.......we are coming to you live from the 9:30 Club in Washington, DC, well, actually, we just said that to get your attention!

At any rate as even yack herders in Mongolia now by now there were mid-term elections to determine which party gets control of the House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate, and alas (yes, we are biased), the Republicans won. But, after watching "The Partridge Family" reruns for five straight days and getting mopped and depressed, we thought of what Mel Brooks once said: "The best way to get even with your enemies is to make fun of them."

So, as gerrymandering will assure that Republicans will hold their seats for years and years on end even if they smoke pot on a ski trip to Colorado or run over an old woman's foot with their Hummer in a Target parking lot in Florida, we thought we'd let you the voter know when your Republican Congressional member is scheduled to turn 103! Oh, and of course, we forgot to add if you are playing Angry Birds as bills are being voted on in the floor; it is actually an addictive game, we'll give you that!

And, of course, we once again, choose to make fun of our own Republican Congressman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va) who was first elected to the House of Reps in 1992 during the infamous Newt Gingrich takeover of the house.

Yes, Prime Minister_ Turkey's PM Says Twitter to Blame

The great Mel Brooks, who is thankfully alive and well, said the best way to make fun of your enemies is to make fun of them. As residents of Istanbul continued massive protests against Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's plans to build a shopping mall on the grounds of Gezi Park, we are going to that here as Erdogan hides away in Tunisia, his next stop on his North African foreign affairs trip.

It seems from speaking with my fellow Turkish-Americans that we might actually dislike this guy as much as Cuban-Americans despise Fidel Castro, but we are not all right-wing fanatics.

In fact, my fellow liberal Turkish-American Cenk Uygur skewered Erdogan quite well last night on his Current-TV talk show, by saying that the man thinks he can always get his way because he has been power now for just over a full decade, but the Marmara Sea's colors seem to be changing.

Here is Erdogan's actual statement about the 'causes' of the protests: "There is a problem called Twitter right now and you can find every kind of lie there," he said. "The thing that is called social media is the biggest trouble for society right now."

Silly Photo to Fill Space: Things Republicans Like

The great Mel Brooks, who is thankfully still with us, said the best way to get even with your enemies is to make fun of them. And, we can't think of any way to get back at real-life Yosemite Sam characters than to stick to them. We sure hope the late great Soupy Sales, who railed from West Virginia (which has alas evolved into a red state) would agree with us.

Today, we are thus featuring a Big Foot Monster Truck in our first in our month-long series of Silly Photos to Fill Space dedicate to Things Republicans like.

For those of you in Antwerp, Belgium, who have not been exposed to this side of American culture, the Big Foot, which shares its name with a mythological creature of the woods, is basically a big pickup truck with big wheels that arbitrarily crushes things.

When I happened to be in the parking lot of the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, NC, on the eve of a monster truck show, I was amazed how many people were lining their vehicles up to get in.

This weekend, at least three incarnations of Big Foot will be touring America; the Summit Racing Big Foot #18 will be in Grand Forks, North Dakota, on March 9th.

Meanwhile, its cousin Bigfoot #15 will be in Jonesboro, Arkansas, for shows on both March 8th and 9th and Bigfoot #10 will be in Albuquerque, New Mexico, a state which actually went blue for Barack Obama!

Special Quote of the Week- Madeline Kahn

Since October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the month is winding down, I wanted to quote two women who succumbed to cancer. For years, I had assumed that both the late Madeline Kahn (1942-1999, pictured here) and the late Gilda Radner
(1946-1989) died from breast cancer, but I have seen info on the web which suggests the two women both died of ovarian cancer.

But, irregradless, I thought it would be appropriate to quote the great comic actresses. In addition to being close in age, Kahn and Radner were both close to actor Gene Wilder.

Kahn appeared in several Mel Brooks films with him, including "Blazing Saddles" and "Young Frankenstein" and Radner ultimately became Wilder's spouse.

Here is the quote from Kahn, who died at age 57 when she was a cast member of "The Cosby Show:"
