Loved this band during my teen years! They called it quits after their third album. My favorite tune is "Be Good Johnny", from their mega-platinum debut, BUSINESS AS USUAL. The lead singer, Colin Hay, is acting now, and appeared in a 1997 Russell Crowe thriller, the title of which I can't recall, but the film has the distinction of being the first movie to be advertised on the Web.
Their third disc, TWO HEARTS, was nothing special, and I think its poor sales convinced them to finally throw in the towel, which they had been planning in 1981, when suddenly "Business" took off like a rocket. Of course, many critics didn't think much of any of their releases. Hope they saved their dough!
"Business" had some good stuff on it. I remember hearing "Who Can It Be Now", possibly for the first time, on "American Bandstand" in 1982. I also recall the world premiere of "Overkill" on Z-100 FM in New York one morning in '83. I wasn't particularly impressed, but bought the single anyway, caught up in Men At Work mania, I suppose.

ReplyDeleteYeah, I gather their third album was pretty bad, but the first two sold really, really well!

ReplyDeleteI think the first record was good. Most music critics hate '80s pop music, it seems.
